| Learn the fabulous art of applique and you'll start wanting to decorate everything in sight with it! In this one class project you'll learn the techniques and then make a cushion cover, stuffed owl or heart to take away. We provide applique materials and buttons but if you have any memorable fabrics you'd like to use please bring them. Classes needed: Half-1 class to do applique on fabric. Or 1-2 classes to include making it into an item. Which Stitch Class to attend: Complete this project in our weekly Sewing and Clothes Making Sessions, or in our One-to-One lessons at a time that suits you Sewing Experience/ level: Improver - suitable for those who know how to thread up and sew seams with a sewing machine and have made at least one item before (though not neccessarily clothing). Your teacher will help you design the applique shape (If you have any ideas, please bring them with you for inspiration), cut out the pices and bond/sew it all together using your custom choice of fabrics and sections based on the pictures above
- a cushion to cover or a new cushion pad (we sometimes have these in stock - see your booking confirmation for details if we do)
- 1 metre of non-stretch medium weight fabric eg printed cotton (bring 2 m fabric if your cushion is larger than 20"x20")
- Note: All fabric needs washing and ironing before class, unless it is 100% polyester or PU/PVC/Oilcloth - or the finished item will never be washed. Check fabric content and any washing/ironing instructions when purchasing fabric
- a reel of matching thread
- if you wear glasses for close up work please bring them
- we will provide small pieces of fabric for the applique but if you have any memorable fabrics you'd like to use please bring them.
Applique owl or heart
Your teacher will help you draw the owl/heart shape, cut out the pices and bond/sew it all together using your custom choice of fabrics and sections based on the pictures above - bring a £1 donation for materials and pattern paper
- if you wear glasses for close up work please bring them
- we will provide small pieces of fabric for making the owl or heart and for the applique but if you have any memorable fabrics you'd like to use please bring them. We'll also provide wadding to stuff it and ribbon to hang it on and thread for sewing.
